Along the way

What is happening along the route?

A number of people have made contact, some directly and others through Just Giving. Many offers of help and support have been forthcoming, and some have agreed to share their stories in order to gain valuable media coverage.

At the moment not everything is planned but there are a few highlights:

Lands-End

Gerald and Maureen Nicholls want to see us off. We will be leaving at around 09:15 on 6th July, if anyone else wishes to join them. If they or anyone is willing to share their story with the media in order to publicise the ride and to increase awareness of Amyloidosis please contact John Plant.

Bristol

Gill Scott and her family will be meeting the team on the Clifton Suspension Bridge. Gill was one of the first to offer her support and is passionate about ensuring that there is greater awareness of Amyloidosis and the work of the NAC. In Gill's words "....we will, as a family, work to raise awareness of amyloidosis. If just one person is diagnosed early, having asked the right questions, then we will be satisfied"

Gill lives in Portishead, North Somerset. She says  "I have a brilliantly supportive daughter Emma, extended family and friends."

Pictured here at Porlock Weir, Exmoor, the favourite place of husband Peter, who died in May 2013. An MRI scan provided a definitive diagnosis of amyloidosis Gill hopes you will fully support the LeJog ride  and hopes everyone will dig deep, please, to support this great cause !

Members of her family will be abseiling down the Avon Gorge later this year to help raise more funds

Monmouth

Some of John's family will be joining him to ride to Clun. He has told them that this was one of the best days of the ride. Hopefully the weather will be kind to them. They will stay overnight in Clun before riding back to Monmouth the following day.

Clun - Shrewsbury

The will be joined by Graham Pugh – He lives in the West Midlands with his wife Chris. Having taken early retirement after a career in telecommunications / computing he spends his time cycling, walking, doing some DIY and voluntary Lock Keeping on the local canal. Also he spends a lot of time supporting his son Steven who was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and Amyloidosis at the tender age of 29. Steven is the youngest patient diagnosed by the NAC.

Runcorn

Darren Garlick and Andrew Coxhill will be riding with the team from Runcorn to Conder Green. They will be well supported by Darren's wife Lisa (an amyloidosis patient) and their two daughters. The Garlick family and friends have made many generous donations. The riders have been loaned bikes by a local bike shop.

Glasgow

Isabel Baird (a patient) has managed to secure the interest of the Glasgow Herald, and contact has been made with Scottish TV (our route passes their studios) we hope to get some valuable media coverage

Lairg

Lairg

Margaret Hudson will be providing Tea and Scones at her cafe in Lairg. These might be needed at the start of a long steady climb up to The Crask.

Boris Bike

One Just Giving sponsor has mentioned riding the route on a Boris Bike. They asked about logistics of getting one to Lands End and then back from John O' Groats.

Sadly it looks as though we won't have a Boris Bike with us. Unless Thirusha can be persuaded to take up a suggestion made by one of her colleagues. Having a nurse in full uniform on a Boris bike would be a certain way to secure media attention

Can you help?

If anyone who lives along the route is willing to meet up with the team to show support, and perhaps gain some much needed publicity please contact John Plant.
